US-CERT has warned that over 600 small businesses in the U.S. have been infected by a new variant of POS malware called Backoff. The malware is capable of keylogging, scanning memory for card data and injecting its code into the explorer.exe. The initial vector of the attack leads through the remote desktop clients and brute-forcing of passwords to the POS systems.
