A group of experts has recommended that National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) should review its cooperation with the NSA. NIST is responsible for development of cryptography standards and is legally obliged to consult them with the NSA. However, some of the Snowden files revealed that of the standards using Dual Elliptic Curve contains backdoors inserted by the NSA to break the encryption. The panel of experts recommended that NIST stop consulting with the NSA ans seek changes in legislation that is harmful for independent development of cryptography standards.
