Compromised certificates issued by Indian authority

July 11, 2014

Google has informed that Indian National Informatics Centre has issued several false SSL certificates that allow the holder to impersonate Google and Yahoo domains. Particularly affected are MS Windows systems because NIC is a subsidiary certificate authority of the Indian Controller of Certificate Authorities that is included in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities Store. This problem affects Internet Explorer and partially Google Chrome (only in regard to the Yahoo domains). Firefox is not vulnerable due to its own database of trusted certificate authorities. Microsoft has already issued update of its trusted certificate database.
