Hackers called Merruk and AquaXetine have circumvented the Activation Lock that is used in iPhones and iPads to disable stolen devices. The hackers have used known vulnerability in iTunes for Windows that has been patched in other versions of the software. They have started web service allowing people with blocked iDevices to activate them again. They have announced that thousands of devices are being unblocked every minute. It can be presumed that the majority of them are stolen devices blocked by their owners. Both hackers claim that they have notified Apple about the vulnerability already in February 2014 with no reaction. Apple reportedly only sent them an e-mail on 21th May.
