CryptoLocker ransomware managed to infect between 200,000 and 250,000 computers and gather almost 1 million USD in ransom since September 2013 according to DELL report. Its success sparkled creation of several malware. After „Locker“ that emerged mid-December, ESET has discovered CryptoLocker 2.0. It appears as the original but features different encryption algorithm (RSA-1024) and accepts payment only in Bitcoins. Also, ithas been created using C# (ulike the original CryptoLocker compiled in C++). The new ransomware spreads as crack files for commercial software and via removable media. The differences suggest that it is not a second version of the CryptoLocker malware but rather a copy created by other developer.
