Vulnerability of Android allows apps to modify icons

April 17, 2014

FireEye has demonstrated ability to create an app able to modify icons on the main screen. That for example allows an attacker to redirect the legitimate banking apps to phishing sites controlled by him. The most appealing fact is that such app only requires “normal” system permissions and user is thus not notified. FireEye also managed to place proof-of-concept app temporarily to the Google Play Store without triggering Google’s malicious app warnings.
