Kaspersky Labs have analyzed malware types spreaded by the Syrian hacking group consisting of several hacktivist teams namely Anonymous Syria, Team Hacker and Assad Hacker Team. The group uses variety of RAT tools and vectors of infection. It addresses its victims via messages on social services and IM clients (Facebook, Skype, YouTube) and offers them to download various applications. They are either Windows versions of popular IM clients such as Viber and WhatsUp, Fake fake security programs as “Amazon Internet Security”, “Smart Firewall” or a database of people wanted by the Syrian government for political activism. The perpetrators aim at Syrian anti-government political activists in Syria and surrounding countries and their activity is constantly increasing. They use IP addresses from Syria, Lebanon and Russia.
